The Vikings
in Britain
The Vikings had a huge impact on Britain and Ireland. They first came to Britain as raiders in the late 700s, but later they returned to conquer parts of Britain and to settle in northern and eastern England, northern and western Scotland and in Ireland and on the Isle of Man.
They founded new kingdoms and towns in the places they settled, and brought with them art styles and technology that influenced and blended with local culture. They also left a legacy in language and place-names that can still be felt today.
